Wake Up Running

Wake Up Running! Acrylic on canvas; August 2011

“Every morning in Africa, a Gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning a Lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest Gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn’t matter whether you are a Lion or a Gazelle… when the sun comes up, you’d better be running.”

I was asked to take this saying and create a panting. This is what I came up with!

I started this project with some doubt as to whether or not I would like the finished product, but it was a joy to work on and it is one of my favorite pieces to date!

Red Tail

Red Tail; Acrylic on canvas; 24" oval; 2011

This painting has been kicking around in m head for a while now. I sketched it on the canvas about 3 weeks ago and then put the canvas away again. Since I was hunkered down, staying out of the path of Hurricane Irene this weekend, I thought I would take advantage of having nothing that I had to do and get some paint on the canvas. Surprisingly, I finished this one in only two passes. That could be a new record for me! It’s not quite as loose as I usually like, but I’m quit happy with the result!
